Es el cuarto adelanto del álbum Ultra Mono

Idles estrena Model Village, el nuevo sencillo del álbum Ultra Mono, disponible el 25 de septiembre. La canción viene acompañada de un video animado de Michel Gondry (Daft Punk, Radiohead, The White Stripes) y Olivier Gondry, creado en colaboración con WePresent, la plataforma editorial de WeTransfer. Antes del lanzamiento de su álbum, Idles estará presentando una serie de performances en vivo desde Abbey Road el 29 y 30 de agosto; grabadas, filmadas y transmitidas en vivo de forma profesional.
El frontman Joe Talbot nos ha contado sobre el significado de Model Village: “Odié crecer en una ciudad que era realmente un pueblo que era realmente una pecera. Me fui en cuanto pude, sólo para darme cuenta que la pecera no existía …sólo los peces, y están en todos lados”.
El vídeo se realizó meticulosamente durante semanas; Michel Gondry encerrado en su estudio de LA, cortando papeles con dibujos hechos mano y haciendo personajes y formas, organizándolas en cajas de luz y filmando desde arriba con su iPhone antes de enviar todo a Olivier Gondry en París, quien luego tomó los collages y les dio vida a través de CGI.
El clip se estrenó en WePresent y Michel ha comentado que “Olivier y yo estábamos emocionados de trabajar en esto porque usamos técnicas completamente opuestas. Yo trabajo con un sistema primitivo de cortar papel y moverlo bajo la lente, cuadro por cuadro. Olivier luego lo transforma al modificar, deformar y con CGI. Básicamente, en la primera parte tratamos de ilustrar las letras lo más posible para crear el mundo, y luego en la segunda parte… se van a la luna”.
Hablando acerca de la creación del vídeo, Talbot explica: “El trabajo de Michel es hecho a mano y es humano y eso es algo a lo que la sociedad se opone: necesitas ser perfecto. Necesitas verte perfecto y todo necesita estar impecable y fuerte. Pero de hecho, la vulnerabilidad y la ingenuidad son fortalezas. Ser vulnerable e ingenuo es tener empatía. Así que para empatizar con tus adversarios y permitirte estar desnudo en video o en audio es una cosa realmente fuerte. Te libera y también libera a tu público. Eso es algo que espero que haga IDLES, y algo que Gondry ha estado haciendo durante años”.
Ultra Mono fue producido por Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire) y Adam ‘Atom’ Greenspan (Anna Calvi, Cut Copy), y cuenta con la voz invitada de Jehnny Beth (Savages) y con aportaciones adicionales de Warren Ellis (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), David Yow y Jamie Cullum.
